Coast Guard station 'Dahanu' commissioned
Coast Guard Station 'Dahanu', the third Coast Guard station in Maharashtra, was commissioned by Vice Admiral M P Muralidharan.
The station, a part of the ongoing efforts by the Coast Guard to strengthen coastal security, will help augment patrolling along the north Maharashtra coast and prevent infiltration and smuggling, he said.
The Vice Admiral also dwelt upon the need for maintaining continuous vigil along the nation's maritime borders and called for continued synergy and coordination between various agencies involved in security operations.
The Coast Guard had initiated several far-reaching projects to augment force levels as also manpower to meet existing and future maritime challenges, he said.
The Station will function under the administrative and operational control of the Commander Coast Guard Region (West) through the Commander Coast Guard District Headquarters 2 located in Mumbai.
Commandant SD Sonak has been appointed as the Commanding Officer of the Station.
Inspector General SPS Basra, the Commander Coast Guard Region (West), Rear Admiral Bimal Verma, Flag Officer Commanding Maharashtra and Gujarat Area and senior officials from the central and state government witnessed the commissioning ceremony.
