Coalgate issue should be discussed in Parliament: Sitaram Yechury

CPI-M politburo member Sitaram Yechury today said his party wanted discussion on coal block allocation in the Parliament and does not support BJP's demand of resignation of Prime Minister.

AGARTALA: CPI-M politburo member Sitaram Yechury today said his party wanted discussion on coal block allocation in the Parliament and does not support BJP's demand of resignation of Prime Minister.

"Government must be accountable to the parliament and if Prime Minister resigns, the government will fall. If discussion begins in Parliament it would also be difficult for BJP also because they also did many wrong deeds regarding coal block allocation when NDA was in power," Yechury told reporters.

He said the CPI-M has demanded an inquiry into the scam of coal block allocation, cancellation of the licenses and discussion in the Parliament.

Replying to a question, he said he did not see any possibility of any midterm election.

"So long there is support of M cube; means Mayawati, Mulayam and Mamata there is no possibility of fall of the government and mid-term elections".

Yechury said the CPI-M would take initiative for formation of non-Congress, non-BJP third front comprising the Left and democratic parties to raise an alternative to Congress and BJP.
