Participating in an election campaign of BJP candidate, Rajdeep Goala for Assam Assembly Polls at Rongpur in Udharbond constituency of Barak valley in Cachar District of Assam, Khemchand said that Assam’s BJP Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma has made Manipuri language as associate official language of Assam. He urged the Manipuri people of Assam to have their trust on the Sarma led BJP Government.
Khemchand said that Manipuri of Barak Valley have immensely contributed in safeguarding the culture and tradition of Manipur. “People of Cachar always love Manipur. Even many Manipuri kings always came to Cachar to discuss the issues of Manipur because Manipuris in Cachar are wealth of knowledge."
He said that people of Cachar always helped Manipur in every issues including ILP and inclusion of Manipuri language in the 8th Schedue of the Indian Constitution.
Khemchand said that during the long Congress rule, the North East states have been neglected and it led to disturbances. He said Congress always gave step motherly treatment to North East while the BJP always work for the welfare of the region. The Manipur Chief Minister said that it was late Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee who started the DONER Ministry for the development of North East region.
Khemchand said that he started All Assam Taekwando Association in 1982 and travelled to many areas of Assam to teach Taekwando martial art. “I went to Nalbari, Dibrugarh and Cachar to teach Taekwando. Whenever the word Assam came to me, It touched my heart.”
