CM should to be trusted to decide state's interest: Omar Abdullah
SRINAGAR: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said the chief minister of a state should be trusted to decide what is in the interest of his state, otherwise it was better to "dispense" the state governments and rule from the Centre directly.

He, however, said that that the decision to release separatist leader Masrat Alam was J&K Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's ploy to ensure that the discourse was about anything but the BJP-PDP alliance.

"God knows I hold no brief for Mufti Sayeed but a CM has to be trusted to decide what is & isn't in the interest of his/her state.

"And if you can't trust a CM to decide what is right then it's better to dispense with state governments & govern from Delhi directly," Omar posted on Twitter.

The National Conference working president was apparently referring to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement in Parliament where he said the Centre was neither consulted nor informed about the release of Alam.

Omar said Sayeed did not want the discourse in the state to be about PDP's alliance with BJP and the chief minister had succeeded in the plan due to the uproar over Alam's release.

"Mufti wants the discourse to be about anything but his alliance with BJP, his hugs with NaMo (Narendra Modi) & the hollow CMP (Common Minimum Program) & so far his script is working," he said.
