CM faces stiff opposition in Nandigram
West Bengal CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee to face a slew of agitation, planned by the Bhumi Uchhed Pratirodh Committee.
The agitations have been planned by the Bhumi Uchhed Pratirodh Committee, which is spearheading the anti-land acquisition movement that faced violent opposition from the state government and CPI (M) cadres since January last.
Several people were killed, women raped and houses looted in the area, currently under CRPF supervision, during the period.
BUPC president Sheikh Sufian said the chief minister would be shown black flags on his entry to Nandigram. The villagers would not come out during his stay and organise fast. They would also "purify" their houses by holy water after he would leave the area.
A CPI (M) leader of East Midnapur district and chairman of the Zilla Parishad, Niranjan Shi, said the chief minister's rally would help boost the peace initiatives.
At the rally, Rs two lakh each would be given by CPI (M) to families of 29 party workers killed in the area, he said.
The chief minister will also address another rally at Tamluk, the headquarters of the East Midnapur district.
Trinamool Congress MLA Subhendu Adhikari alleged that CPI (M) cadres were extorting money from TC supporters for the rally. The allegation was denied by CPI (M) saying money were being collected from willing people.
