Clean India: Will we get it right this time?

It was among the first major project announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he come to power in May. And he has made it a point to mention it on almost every important occasion – from his Independence Day speech to the Madison Square Garden event.

Swachh Bharat Mission, which envisages a clean India by 2019 to coincide with the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, will officially kick off on October 2.

Ministers have been asked to travel to states and set an example by cleaning public places such as railway stations and markets, while schools have been asked to involve students in the initiative.
