Clean chit to Jaswant in opium case
A special court today gave a clean chit to former External Affairs Minister and senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh besides nine others in the infamous opium case which surfaced in October last year.
Apart from Jaswant Singh, the special court of Narcotics and Anti-Drug Substances here absolved six party legislators, including three cabinet ministers, and three BJP MPs of all the charges in the case.
Judge Bhawani Shankar Kumawat accepted the final inquiry report of the CID (CB), which had conducted investigations pertaining to the case, and gave clean chit to all of them.
The judge dismissed the petition filed by Jodhpur-based advocate Om Prakash who alleged that drinks laced with opium were served at the party hosted by Rajya Sabha member Jaswant Singh in violation of the NDPS Act.
The three cabinet ministers are Ghanshyam Tiwari, Narpat Singh Rajvi and Madan Dilawar while the MPs are Veer Singh Kaushal, Kailash Meghwal and Lalit Kishore Chaturvedi.
The other MLAs are Mahaveer Prasad Jain, Jogeshwar Garg and Shankar Singh.
The party was hosted by Singh on October seven last year at his native Jasol village in Barmer district.
