Police resorted to lathi charge at Jangipur in West Bengal's Murshidabad district following clashes between two groups during a Rama Navami procession on Friday.

Police said senior officials rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Central security forces have been deployed in the area. Clashes erupted after some people pelted stones at the procession in a locality dominated by a minority community, said police officials. Some shops were vandalised and set on fire.

Meanwhile, at Ranaghat in Nadia district, an FIR has been filed against two people for allegedly assaulting a primary school teacher on poll-related duty. Saikat Chatterjee was allegedly beaten up when he pointed out an alleged violation of the model code of conduct: display of the Trinamool government's developmental work on a screen at a school where polling officials were given training. ECI has sought a report from DGP, DEO and other officials about tthe incident.
