Clarify issues with Waqf Bill: JDU to Muslim organisations

With Muslim organisations like Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind raising questions on JDU's stand on the Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament, it has asked the organisations and clerics to let the party know of the provisions of the bill they have issues with, so that the party raises them at the right platform. "Earlier leaders of Sunni Waqf Board, Shia Waqf Board, some party leaders from minority community and others had met the CM in Patna. I was present in the meeting," JDU working president Sanjay Jha told ET. "Our leader clearly told them to point out the provisions of the bill where they have issues, and the party will raise it at the right platform, be it in the JPC or government. This is our official stand on the Waqf Bill," Jha added.

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board leaders have been claiming that two NDA allies - JDU and TDP - are opposing the Waqf Bill. Jha, however, didn't divulge details on whether his party would support or oppose the bill in Parliament. "We will decide when the time comes. This is not the first time that amendments are taking place in the Waqf Act," Jha added.

Meanwhile, the JPC on Waqf Bill on Wednesday unanimously decided to seek an extension in its tenure till the last day of next budget session.
