Clarify India’s stand on J&K to Pakistan, demands Advani

The BJP has demanded that the government “unequivocally” reiterate India’s position on Jammu and Kashmir to the Pakistan government.

NEW DELHI: The BJP has demanded that the government unequivocally reiterate Indias position on Jammu and Kashmir to the Pakistan government. The leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, LK Advani, has asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to make it clear to the Pakistan government that any deviation from Indias stated position will be unacceptable.

Mr Advanis strong worded letter comes in the wake of the clarification issued by Pakistans information minister on October 6 which reiterated the countrys and the Pakistan Peoples Partys support for just cause of Kashmir and its struggle for self determination.

Pakistan information minister Sherry Rahman in a statement had said, The President has made it very clear that the just cause of Kashmir and its struggle for self-determination has been a consistent central position of the PPP for 40 years now. There is no change in that policy. He has never called the legitimate aspirations of Kashmiris an expression of terrorism, nor has he undermined the sufferings of the Kashmiri people.

The elucidation was a follow-up to Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardaris statements which described the militants in Jammu and Kashmir as terrorists and stated that India has never been a threat to Pakistan.

In his letter to the prime minister, the BJP leader said that India has consistently maintained that Jammu and kashmir is an integral part of India and the question of self-determination does not arise.

Mr Advani also referred to the unanimous resolution passed by Parliament on February 22, 1994, which declared, The state of Jammu and Kashmir has been, is and shall be an integral part of the India and any attempt to separate it from the rest of the country will be resisted by all necessary means...
