CJI TS Thakur backs Kejriwal's alternate day vehicle plan
NEW DELHI: Chief Justice of India TS Thakur has backed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s proposal to allow odd and even numbered vehicles in the city to ply only on alternate days, but said the problem of rising air pollution requires a “multi-pronged approach”.

“I don't have a problem if it helps,” he told reporters on Sunday. However, he said the move alone would not solve the problem. “There has to a multi-pronged approach,” he said.

Justice Thakur’s support should bring relief to the administration, which has drawn flak over the decision announced on Friday.

The Chief Justice also said he would explore the option of introducing car-pooling even for judges after consulting them. He said that the Supreme Court would take care of any incidents of intolerance that come to the courts in this regard.
