CJI Ranjan Gogoi skips Russian event; justice Bobde to attend

NEW DELHI: Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi in a last minute decision has pulled out from the May 14-18 St Petersburg International Legal Forum (SPBILF). India will be represented at the meet by senior Supreme Court judge Sharad Arvind Bodbe.

Justice Bobde is in line to be next CJI after Gogoi. Bobde's presence at SPBILF will also enable India and Russia to explore partnership in the field of law and related issues.

SPBILF is one of the prestigious global legal conferences and precursor for St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) --considered mini-Davos of Eurasia.


In 2017, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the chief guest at SPIEF.

SPBILF is a unique international conference that brings together the leading minds of the legal profession.

The SPBILF, founded in 2011, is organised under the auspices of the President of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation. Over the years, the SPBILF has emerged as a foremost international platform for discussing a broad range of urgent questions confronting the contemporary international community of legal professionals, according to forum organisers.
