CJI Ranjan Gogoi holds bilateral discussions with Russian Chief Justice Vyacheslav Lebedev

NEW DELHI: Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi met his Russian counterpart Vyacheslav Lebedev on the margins of the 14th Conference of Chief Justices of the Sanghai Cooperation Organisation member countries in Sochi to discuss judicial cooperation.

The two Chief Justices exchanged views on judicial processes of the respective countries. Chief Justice of India briefed his Russian counterpart about the different levels in Indian Judicial System and how judiciary in India functions.

The CJI mentioned that he looks forward to the discussions under the SCO format and would like to learn from experiences of the other member states about their best practices on fast disposal of cases. Referring to the issue of pendency of cases in India he said that it would be useful to find out the good practices in vogue in mechanisms like mediation, out of court settlement etc in other countries.
