Veggies get dearer
Incessant rains are driving up vegetable prices in the city and its suburbs. Truck arrivals to the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee market at Vashi have been delayed on account of flooding.
“Truck arrivals are down to a third as the incessant downpour has hit transportation from the producing centres to APMC Vashi very difficult,” YD Khawale, APMC secretary told ET. This has led to wholesale prices rising by 20%. The downpour has also led to vegetables at storage sites getting spoilt. This is causing a shortage in supply, and prices are moving north.

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday pulled up the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation for not doing enough to tackle flooding in low-lying areas following heavy rains in the city. The HC has asked the civic body to explain why action should not be taken against contractors for poor road conditions.
