City blinded by fog, even worse in store today

The Met office had predicted dense fog in the capital on Thursday.

NEW DELHI: The Met office had predicted dense fog in the capital on Thursday. But even those who took the warning seriously hadn’t bargained for the pea-souper that descended late Wednesday evening and stayed on till well past the morning rush hour.

The foggiest day of the season not only wrought havoc on air and rail traffic, with several flights and 21 trains being cancelled and many more delayed, but also turned driving in the city at late hours into a nightmare.

The fog, which never really lifted through the day, ensured that the maximum temperature dipped to 18 degrees Celsius. The Met prediction for Friday is equally grim: Density and duration of fog cover is likely to increase.
