CITU to hold rallies in Karnataka on April 18

The CITU will also protest the "anti-people and anti-farmer" policies of the central and state governments and price rise, CITU all India Vice President, V J K Nair, told reporters here on Tuesday.

Mangalore: The Centre for Indian Trade Unions will hold rallies in all districts of Karnataka on April 18 as part of the nationwide stir to press for "working class farming communities."

The CITU will also protest the "anti-people and anti-farmer" policies of the central and state governments and price rise, CITU all India Vice President, V J K Nair, told reporters here on Tuesday.

The government should effectively implement the National Rural Employment Guarantee (NREG) Act and make it universal by covering urban poor as well, Nair demanded.

There should be a complete amendment to the SEZ Act and the rules should protect the peasants, agricultural labourers and other people, Nair said.

The CITU is also holding its state committee meeting at Bangalore on May 2 and 3 to chalk out future course of action in the state to protect the workers and people's interests, Nair said.
