Citizenship Act not against Muslims: Gadkari

“It is written in the Constitution that Hindus, Jains, Christians and Buddhists of Pakistan and Afghanistan, whenever they would come to India would be considered refugees,” Gadkari said.

MUMBAI: Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday said the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is not against the Muslims of India, claiming that Babasaheb Ambedkar, Nehru and Gandhi were clear that only persecuted minorities like Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis and Buddhists of Pakistan and Afghanistan would be considered refugees in India.

“It is written in the Constitution that Hindus, Jains, Christians and Buddhists of Pakistan and Afghanistan, whenever they would come to India would be considered refugees,” Gadkari said at a Nagpur rally organised by BJP and RSS on Sunday.

The minister accused Congress of spreading “misinformation” over the issue for “vote bank politics”.

“The decision has been taken because minorities have been persecuted in countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh,” said Gadkari.
