Assam NRC: Amit Shah asks Congress, TMC to clear their stand on Bangladeshi infiltrators
Addressing the media in Delhi, BJP president Amit Shah, tried to lay aside all rumours regarding the final NRC draft which was published in Assam yesterday.

Taking on the opposition, Shah said that the entire NRC exercise was done under the watchful eyes of the Supreme Court. He urged all the parties to offer a clear explanation on issue.

Offering a clear explanation, Shah said that BJP never intends to indulge in vote-bank politics for petty political gains. Our government is working towards the larger issue of national security, stated Shah.

Explaining the rationale behind undertaking the NRC exercise, Amit Shah said, the NRC is a culmination of a movement which was started in early 1980s. The movement aimed to drive away illegal residents (Bangladeshi migrants) from the state.

He also questioned the Congress party, as it was under their leadership that the Assam accord was signed.

Shah said former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had signed the Assam Accord on August 14, 1985 after the movement in the state went out of control leading to death of some protesters.

Taking a jibe at the West Bengal chief minister, Shah said the she is clearly resorting to vote-bank politics.
