Underworld gangster Sadashiv Nikhalje alias Chotta Rajan who has been caught in Indonesia and who is likely to be deported back to India faces 63 criminal cases in Mumbai alone said Additional Commissioner of Police (crime) KMM Prasanna.

Most of the cases pertain to murder, attempt to murder and extortion, Smuggling said Mumbai Police officials. that Rajan faces cases for more than three decades.

“There are cases against him from 1978, he had been acquitted in five cases, there are 63 other cases pending against him.”said Prasanna.

Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Ram Shinde said that the Maharashtra government would be writing to the Centre seeking Rajan’s custody once he is handed over to the Mumbai police.

Among the high profile cases, Rajan is said to be involved in the killing of Journalist J Dey who was killed in Mumbai on June 11 2011, by shooters belonging to the Chotta Rajan gang.
