Chit-fund scam: CBI carries out searches against firms in Odisha and West Bengal

NEW DELHI: CBI today carried out searches at 11 places in Kolkata and five locations in Odisha against the firm Asha Agro Equipment Industries in connection with the chit-fund scam.

Searches were conducted at the offices and residences of the Managing Director Tarun Kumar Barui and directors Ranjit Santra, Susanta Mohapatra, Ananta Barik and Parimal Biswas.

CBI has registered 44 FIRs in Odisha against as many chit- fund companies.

Supreme Court has handed over the Saradha scam probe to CBI and asked various state governments to provide every logistical help to the agency in that regard.

CBI has formed a Special Investigating Team headed by Joint Director Rajiv Singh to also probe the role of the Securities and Exchange Board of India and RBI in the matter.
