Chinese biz major Fosun donates masks to India to fight Covid-19

NEW DELHI: China, original epicentre of Coronavirus, has donated 5,000 surgical masks to India to fight Covid-19 in commercial capital Mumbai.

The first batch of medical protective supplies to India, 5,000 pieces of surgical masks that were cleared for use in the “red zone” of hospitals, has been donated by China-based business enterprise Fosun. The masks were donated to the Mumbai Municipal Government. The donation is made in the name of Fosun Foundation to support the local anti-epidemic works, according to a Chinese government statement.

The supplies were made to Mumbai’s Kasturba Hospital, the facility selected as centralized treatment and quarantine center for Covid-19 by the Indian government.


This follows a similar Indian gesture made to China last month when India sent medical supplies to fight virus in Wuhan.

“Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, Fosun has stood at the forefront of epidemic prevention, with its global procurement network covering 23 countries. As of March 1, Fosun purchased and collected 2.963 million pieces of medical protection supplies across the world, including 1.12 million pieces of protection suits, 1.55 million pieces of facial masks, 93 thousand pairs of protective goggles, and 200 thousand pairs of medical gloves, along with 900 respirators,” according to the statement.

At present, Fosun’s hospitals and a number of medical workers are still fighting at the front line against the epidemic in China. With extensive anti-epidemic support, Fosun’s headquarters and its portfolio companies are resuming their work and production and restoring normal operation, the statement added.

Fosun International Limited is a Chinese conglomerate and investment company. Founded in 1992, the company is headquartered in Shanghai and was incorporated in Hong Kong in 2004.
