China's Yunan province governor invites Mamata Banerjee

KOLKATA: The governor of Yunan province of China has invited West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for a visit, China's consul-general Wang Xuefeng today said.

"The governor of Yunan province a few weeks back had sent an invitation to me to forward it to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, inviting her to visit Yunan province. I have already forwarded that invitation to the chief minister's office," Xuefeng told reporters here.

Xuefeng said officials from the provinces were in Kolkata last March to promote Indo-China tourism, but failed to meet the chief minister as she was busy in election campaigning.

The invitation came just months after Banerjee's high profile visit to Singapore to seek investment for her state.
