China vows to crush Tibet rebels
Another contradiction emerged from Washington with US president George Bush saying he would visit the Olympic Games.
The Taiwanese people elected a pro-China president for the first time in many years.
The Communist Party of China revealed its steel teeth as its mouth organ, the People's Daily , came out with an editorial calling for efforts to "resolutely crush��� the movement for Tibet's independence.
The government also released photographs of 21 "most wanted" protesters in order to flush them out of their hidings.
The statement showed that the hard line segment within the party has emerged stronger in comparison to the section that favours negotiations with the Dalai Lama.
"We must see through the secessionist forces' evil intentions, uphold the banner of maintaining social stability... and resolutely crush the 'Tibet independence' forces' conspiracy," the People's Daily said.
Another contradiction emerged from Washington with US president George Bush saying he would visit the Olympic Games at a time when critics have raised voices for its boycott in view of China's record on human rights.
The Bush statement came in the midst of Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the US House of Representatives meeting the Dalai Lama and lashing out at China on the Tibet issue.
Frank Hsieh of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party, which favours full independence from China, lost the election in Taiwan's presidential election on Saturday. The winner, Ma Ying-jeou, of the Nationalist Party, has been advocating closer ties with China and an end to the politics of strife across the Taiwan Straits.
China regards Taiwan as part of its territory and resents any effort to seek full independence by its politicians. China has, on some occasions, even threatened to use military force to bring about unification with China.
