China hopes for peaceful resolution of India-Pakistan disputes

Calling itself friends of both India and Pakistan, China today hoped the two countries will resolve their disputes calmly to uphold peace and stability in South Asia.

BEIJING: Calling itself friends of both India and Pakistan, China today hoped the two countries will resolve their disputes calmly to uphold peace and stability in South Asia.

Reacting to reports about the death of one Pakistani soldier in exchange of fire between India-Pak troops, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Hong Lei told media here that China hopes both the countries resolve their disputes "properly and calmly".

"As a neighbour and friend of both India and Pakistan we hope the two countries can properly and calmly resolve their disputes through dialogue and negotiation so as to jointly uphold peace and stability of South Asia", he said.

Pakistani troops had yesterday violated ceasefire by firing mortar shells towards Indian army posts in Uri sector near the Line of Control.

In Islamabad, the Pakistani army alleged that one of its soldiers was killed and another injured.
