Child trafficking: West Bengal police arrest 2 government officials

BJP leader Juhi Chowdhury was arrested in the case a week ago and names of several other BJP leaders are surfacing during the investigation.

KOLKATA: The Criminal Investigation Department of West Bengal police arrested the district child protection officers of Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts and the member of child welfare committee in connection with the child trafficking case allegedly involving some of the BJP leaders.

CID has today arrested Sasmita Ghosh, district child protection officers of Jalpaiguri district where the adoption centres are located. Ghosh was suspended after the arrest of Chandana Chakrabarty, the mastermind of the racket.

BJP leader Juhi Chowdhury was arrested in the case a week ago and names of several other BJP leaders are surfacing during the investigation.

On Friday, the investigators picked up Mrina Ghosh, child protection officer of Darjeeling districts and Debahsish Chandra, the member of child welfare committee.

Significantly, Ghosh was facilitated by the state government months back for his ‘exemplary work’ in the field of child protection.
