Chief Minister's Relief Fund gets Rs 4.57 cr today

Jayalalithaa had earlier appealed to people, organisations, NGOs and philanthropists to contribute towards restoration and rehabilitation work.

CHENNAI: Prominent individuals and organisations today contributed Rs 4.57 crore to Chief Minister's Relief Fund towards the restoration and rehabilitation work post cyclone ' Thane' which hit the coast of Cuddalore and Villupuram districts on December 30 last.

Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker D Jayakumar and emoployees of the state secretariat contributed Rs 3.26 lakh, while MLAs N D Venkatachalam (Perundurai) and Nanjil A Murugesan (Nagercoil) donated Rs 5 lakh each.

Sri Vijayalakshmi Trust contributed Rs 1.25 crore, while G Viswanathan founder and Chancellor of Vellore Institute of Technology and K S Raju, Nagarjuna Oil Corporation Limited Group Chairman, donated Rs one crore each.

Southern Railway Mazdoor Union donated Rs 40 lakh, while actors Sivakumar, Surya and Karthik donated Rs 25 lakh.

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had earlier appealed to people, organisations, NGOs and philanthropists to contribute towards the restoration and rehabilitation work.
