Chief justice takes lawyer to task over error

CJI JS Khehar took a young lady lawyer to task in the CJI court with a jovial remark: “You can’t take my Phagwara to Rajasthan.” He was alluding to a mistake made by the counsel in her petition. The lawyer immediately apologised, but the CJI could not help himself to a few laughs. “Punjab is my home state. People will say what kind of Chief Justice is he? Giving our Phagwara to Rajasthan.”



Where are the protests?
Even as Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee announced that she and her party would continue with anti-note recall protests, the CM and Trinamool Congress were busy with fairs and festivals. Banerjee inaugurates and her government and party sponsor and organise them. Even though she has maintained that the country will witness a famine following note recall, anti-demonetisation protests appear to be fizzling out.



Lalu’s ties with Congress
Former Bihar CM and RJD chief Lalu Prasad is learnt to have improved his relation with Congress party. It has become politically significant in view of the JDU chief and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s recent decision to back PM Narendra Modi on demonetisation. PM Modi had also praised the Nitish government’s prohibition policy.



BJP debates Che Guevara
BJP’s AN Radhakrishnan says Che Guevara’s picture should be removed from Kerala as he has an evil influence on students. He says student wing of the communist party engages in violence because they see him as their role model. However, another BJP leader CK Padmanabhan pointed out the Latin American leader gave up the post of a minister to fight for the common man and his life should be studied further.
