Election Commission has left it to PM to fix Gujarat poll dates: P Chidambaram
NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Tuesday launched a series of sarcastic tweets against the EC, which is under the Opposition party’s criticism for not announcing the dates for Gujarat elections along with Himachal Pradesh’s. The former Finance Minister taunted the poll body by saying the EC had left it to the Prime Minister to announce the Gujarat polls dates.

“EC has authorised PM to announce date of Gujarat elections at his last rally (and kindly keep EC informed)”, Chidambaram tweeted. “EC will be recalled from its extended holiday after Gujarat govt has announced all concessions and freebies.”, said his another tweet.

Ever since the EC chose to announce only the dates of HP, the Opposition Party had alleged the announcement of Gujarat poll schedule was being deliberately delayed in order to facilitate the Centre to make some pre-poll sops to the people of Guajrat.

While Himacahl is going to polls in November, the Gujarat is expected to go to polls in December.
