Rajya Sabha MP P.Chidambaram resigned from his seat in Maharashtra.

Senior Congress leader & Rajya Sabha MP P. Chidambaram resigned from his seat in Maharashtra, following his election to the Rajya Sabha from the state of Tamil Nadu on June 16.

Biennial elections to 57 Rajya Sabha seats were announced recently as 41 candidates from Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and Telangana were elected unopposed.


In his tweet, the senior congress leader said, “ Accordingly, today I tendered my resignation from the seat from the state of Maharashtra.”


Chidambaram confirmed his resignation stating that the Hon'ble Chairman of the Rajya Sabha has accepted his resignation and he was honoured to represent the state of Maharashtra.

“I wish the people of Maharashtra the very best in the future, peace and prosperity.” he said.

The elections to 16 Rajya Sabha seats in four states, including Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Haryana, was held on June 10.
