NEW DELHI: Finance minister P Chidambaram is likely to attend the annual meeting of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund scheduled next month in Tokyo.

The finance minister's first official engagement with his global counterparts after taking over assumes significance as the Indian government sheds months of policy logjam to unveil a slew of reforms.

Chidambaram, who is credited for being the main crisis manager when the global financial crisis broke out in 2008, will get a first hand idea of the global economic situation especially after the recent actions by the monetary authorities of Europe, the US and Japan.
