NEW DELHI: At least 49 policemen were killed and 12 injured when armed Naxals lobbed grenades and opened indiscriminate firing at a police outpost in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh in the wee hours on Thursday.

Chief Minister Raman Singh informed the state Assembly that 15 personnel of Chhattisgarh Armed Forces and 34 Special Police Officers posted at an outpost in Rani Bodli, about 525 km from New Delhi, were killed in the pre-dawn attack.

He said 12 personnel, including six SPOs, were injured in the attack.
