Chennai takes cue of Ajmer strike, steps up vigil

Chennai police beefs security in the city in the wake of the terror strike in Ajmer shrine a day before.

CHENNAI: In the wake of the terror strike on the shrine of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in Ajmer, police has beefed up security in and around the city, officials said.

Security has been tightened up at 394 mosques and 124 dargahs in the city, while armed policemen are also patrolling important places including the Central and Egmore railway stations and Koyambedu Mofussil Bus Terminus, they said.

Metal detectors have also been installed at many public places, they said adding, and vehicles entering the city are being thoroughly checked.
