Chavan backs PM on 2G allocation

Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan came out in strong support of Manmohan Singh against the backdrop of the Supreme Court remarks on delay in sanctioning prosecution of the telecom minister in 2G spectrum case.

NEW DELHI: Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Thursday came out in strong support of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh against the backdrop of the Supreme Court remarks on delay in sanctioning prosecution of the telecom minister in 2G spectrum case.

"You can rest assure that the Prime Minister stands for probity, transparency and if he finds any wrongdoing anywhere, he will not spare any one," Chavan, who till recently was the Minister of State in the PMO, told reporters.

He was replying to a question on observations made by the apex Court against the Prime Minister in connection with the 2G spectrum allocation.

Chavan preceded his remarks by saying that he was now the Chief Minister of Maharashtra though he had a long tenure in the PMO.

"I think the PMO has adequately responded and they will respond in Parliament. It is not for me to second guess what is happening in Parliament now or what the PMO will do," he said.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday had asked some embarrassing questions on lengthy delay on the part of the Prime Minister in taking a decision on Swamy's plea for grant of sanction to prosecute Raja in the Spectrum scam.
