Charges framed against retired IPS officer

A special court here framed charges against retired Bihar IPS officer Ramchandra Khan for fraud, forgery and cheating, and sections under the Prevention of Corruption Act in connection with the uniform scam.


PATNA: A special court here framed charges against retired Bihar IPS officer Ramchandra Khan for fraud, forgery and cheating, and sections under the Prevention of Corruption Act in connection with the uniform scam.

Dismissing Khan's petition seeking discharge in the case, designated CBI judge Ramshrestha Rai framed him under sections 120b (criminal conspiracy), 420 (fraud), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document and falsification of documents).

The judge also framed charges against Khan, who retired as Inspector General of Police, under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Khan has been charged with misusing his official position in alloting Rs 24 lakh for purchase of uniforms for policemen though he was not entitled to do so when he held the office of the Inspector General (Provisions) between 1982 and 85.

The court also framed charges against 13 other accused, including six private parties and some public servants.

Rajendra Sharma, an IPS officer who was SP (provisions) at the time of commission of the offence was one of them.
