NEW DELHI: Changes may be in the offing in the Congress in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh amidst reports that PCC chief Nirmal Khatri has resigned but he said that he has not quit.

"I have not resigned", said Khatri, who met Congress President Sonia Gandhi two days ago, dismissing reports that he has quit. Khatri has been PCC chief for less than four years.

Top party sources, however, maintained today that Khatri has offered his resignation but no decision has been taken on it.

The sources said changes in the PCC were likely soon as the party prepares for the next year's Assembly elections.

Speculation has been on about a restructuring in the PCC and the newly-appointed AICC General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad had indicated that changes are likely.

Congress had fared miserably in Uttar Pradesh in the last Lok Sabha polls where it could win just two of the 80 seats with party chief Sonia Gandhi and party Vice President Rahul Gandhi getting elected from their pocket boroughs of Rae Bareli and Amethi.
