Chandrasekharan murder case: V S Achutanandan’s support for probe jolts CPM

KOCHI: The CPM’s official stand that the move to announce a CBI inquiry into the T P Chandrasekharan murder case is politically motivated has received a jolt with party leader V S Achuthanandan supporting such an inquiry.

The opposition leader wrote to chief minister Oommen Chandy to consider the request of K K Rema, T P Chandrashekharan’s wife, for a CBI inquiry. While his office said he had not written such a letter, he clarified that he indeed wrote the letter.

When asked whether the letter is against the party’s interest, he said, “let the party discuss it” . The letter, which talks about the links of the convicts in the T P case with international gangs, supports Rema in her demand for CBI inquiry.

By writing such a letter, V S Achuthanandan has made it clear that his stand on the matter is different from the state and central leadership of the CPM. When Rema started her hunger strike in front of the state secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram, he was expected to come and see her.

Though he did not visit her, the oppositional leader has now supported her by writing to the CM. The Revolutionary Marxist Party welcomed his support. Home minister Ramesh Chennithala said the government will treat the letter as the demand of the entire opposition.
