Chandrababu Naidu gets US Biz award, brings tech support from Cisco, Nutanix

HYDERABAD: United States India Business Council (USIBC) on Tuesday presented the Transformative Chief Minister award to Andhra Pradesh chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at San Jose on the occasion of its second anniversary.

The chief minister, taking advantage of the opportunity, exhorted the Telugus in the United States to emerge as entrepreneurs and make investments in Andhra Pradesh while calling other industrialists to invest in the state.

“With fast growth in several sectors including ports and airports and development of three industrial corridors and two coastal economic zones in the state, AP would emerge as one among the top three states in the country by 2022 and would emerge as India growth engine with 12 per cent growth rate,” said Naidu. He was presented the award by John Chambers, executive chairman and former chief executive officer (CEO) of Cisco Systems.

Cisco, a global information technology company, has tied up with Andhra Pradesh to make ‘small business’ easy. The company chief also invited Naidu to his residence for a meeting with chief executives of 30 companies.

The chief minister and the delegation on the fifth day of their week-long visit to the US on Tuesday visited the Applied Materials Headquarters in California and decided to work towards creating an ecosystem for applied materials research and manufacturing in the state.

He also suggested creating a group of six people, three from AP and three from Applied Materials to draw a road map for bringing applied materials based technology companies to Andhra Pradesh.

The chief minister also met representatives from Nutanix, a cloud computing software company who expressed their desire to make the state a ‘cloud hub’. Dheeraj Pndey, co-founder of Nutanix informed that they will be preparing a clear road map and will submit a project report in two months from now to create cloud infrastructure. Further, Naidu also held bilateral meetings with companies like Patro Corp, Visa and Mobility Infra.

Patra Corp an American BPO that is already present in Visakhapatnam and plans to recruit another 500 in Vizag apart from the existing 1,500 employees but could not given space constraints. The Chief Minister immediately asked the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) to make buildings available to them.
