In an effort to spruce up healthcare system, Chandigarh has invited proposals from private sector to set up a modern and multi-disciplinary 'medicity' in the union territory.

NEW DELHI: In an effort to spruce up healthcare system, Chandigarh has invited proposals from private sector to set up a modern and multi-disciplinary 'medicity' in the union territory.

The medicity, to be developed by Chandigarh administration on a 45 acre of land, will cater to various healthcare needs at one point and provide treatment in different streams of medicines.

The proposed city would have a super-speciality hospital-cum-recuperatory centre and a dental college, and will provide healthcare facilities at affordable rate to all sections of population, the UT administration said while inviting proposals from private sector.

It will also have a nursing college which would provide free education to 300 nurses per year.

The medicity would provide treatment facilities in different streams of medicines like ayurveda, homeopathy, siddha and unani along with a holistic health centre.

Besides these components, a centre for research in treatment of thalassaemia and sickle cell anaemia would also be set up in the proposed city.

In addition to mandatory components, the administration said, the private sector applicant would be free to conceptualise the medicity.
Companies or consortia having capability to set up the proposed city can submit their expression of interest to the administration by February 15, it said.
