Chandigarh declares three radio taxi operators as authorised

CHANDIGARH: Taking a serious note of the alleged rape of a 27-year-old girl by a cab driver in Delhi, Chandigarh administration has authorised three radio taxi operators to ply in the city.

Chandigarh's State Transport Authority (STA) has declared only three radio taxi operators -Mega Cabs, RBTS and Fab Cabs as authorised as per 2006 Radio Taxi Scheme of the Chandigarh Administration, STA Secretary Stash Jain said here today.

Only three radio taxi operators are legally authorised to run their operations in the city while rest of them are unauthorised, he said.

STA officials said that the taxi operators operating through mobile application are running their cabs under All India Taxi Permit system.

"But we will take action against them as these taxi operators do not conform to Radio Taxi scheme of UT Chandigarh Administration," they said.

Last week, a taxi driver employed by US-based taxi operator Uber was arrested from Mathura for allegedly raping a 27-year-old woman executive in his cab.
