Chandigarh administration denies banning mini skirts
CHANDIGARH: After the backlash on social media, for introducing a new dress code -- imposing ban on mini-skirts at discotheques, Chandigarh administration on Wednesday took a ‘U’ turn on the issue.

UT home secretary Anurag Agarwal said, “We have not banned mini-skirts. No such dress code has been prescribed in the policy framed by the Chandigarh administration recently.”

The development in sync with the activities of right wing activists, seeking no entry for women in pubs at Bengaluru last year, raised a question mark on the functioning of BJP Member Parliament from Chandigarh – Kirron Kher, as well. With social media seeking her to clear her stance on the issue.

“Does Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher have a view on this?” asked Sanjay Hegdey through his tweet

Chandigarh Administration became a subject of ridicule on Tweeter, with some accusing it of carrying forward the RSS agenda.

AAP leader Ashish Khetan tweet says, “Babus in Centre ruled Chandigarh will now decide which skirt is fit for city's women when they go to a disco or pub. This is outrageous.”

The report claimed that the UT administration in its policy “Controlling of Places of Public Amusement, 2016” that came into effect on April 1 stated that permission could be denied to discotheque owners to run their business if a UT committee found “exhibition or advertisement of scantily dressed women” and “indecency” or if it was “seditious and likely to excite political discontent”.

“The policy draft, however, does not define ‘scantily dressed women’ or ‘indecency’ and also doesn’t elaborate on sedition,” the report read.
