GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that as promised, the central government - with help of the state of Assam - has sealed the Indo-Bangla border, including 64 kilometers of riverine area.

Sonowal, while speaking at a book release function, said that immediately after coming to power his government took steps to fulfil the different clauses in the Assam Accord.

He said it is because of the intense sincerity of the Central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, steps were taken for fulfilling clause VI of the Assam Accord.

He also said that no previous government at the Centre had given due importance to Assam and North East. However the BJP-led government and Prime Minister Modi have termed North East as Astalaxmi and organic hub of the region. He, therefore, called upon the larger fraternity of the state government employees to grab the opportunity and work to bolster the development of the state.

He also said the multi model logistic hub set up at Jogighopa was one of the many steps taken by the Central government to stimulate the development of Assam. Sonowal also said that true to its promise the government at the Centre with help of the state has sealed the Indo-Bangla border including 64 km of riverine areas.
