The Centre is set to launch a mega nationwide public participation programme 'Meri Maati Mera Desh', comprising five components including installation of statues of martyrs, hoisting national flag on every home and creating an Amrit Vatika here, officials said.

The programme titled 'Meri Maati Mera Desh' (my soil my country), with the tagline 'Mitti ko naman, veeron ka vandan', is a nationwide people-led "Jan bhagidari" (public participation) initiative to commemorate 75 years of India's Independence, officials said.

The programme is jointly planned by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Ministry of Culture, and is the finale of Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav programme, they said.

The programme was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his 103rd edition of Mann Ki Baat programme and is likely to start from August 9 till August 31, officials said.

'Meri Maati Mera Desh' celebrates the many achievements of the nation, officials said, adding that it involves paying tribute to the 'Veers' (bravehearts) who protect our nation and for which ceremonies would be held from block level to the national level, they said.

In total, there are five components of the programme -- erecting statues and name plates of martyrs, paying tributes to them, collecting soil from every block for Amrit Vatika at Kartavya Path, hoisting of national flag at every home and taking the pledge of Panch Pran.
