Centre to consider a CBI probe into Sonawane's murder: Kamat
Gurudas Kamat today visited the house of slain Additional Collector Yashwant Sonawane here to express condolences to his family and said the Centre would consider ordering a CBI investigation into the officer's murder.
"If the Maharashtra government requests for a CBI probe, the Central government will think about it," he told reporters after the visit.
Sonawane's wife Vijaya had yesterday demanded a CBI probe into her husband's brutal murder.
Leader of Opposition in State Legislative Council and BJP leader Pandurang Phundkar also paid a visit to Sonawane's residence and demanded the resignation of State PWD minister Chaggan Bhujbal, who is also the district guardian minister.
Phundkar criticised the state government in failing to contain major adulteration in petroleum products and said Bhujbal should step down on moral grounds.
The 42-year-old Malegaon Additional Collector was set on fire allegedly by the oil mafia at Manmad here on January 25 at a roadside dhaba.
