SRINAGAR: The opposition parties in J&K said Centre should define the contours of dialogue initiative and start engagement with Pakistan and Hurriyat. They reiterated that gun is no solution to Kashmir’s problem.

The opposition urged that halt of security operations during Ramzan should be prolonged after Eid as any step to end bloodshed is much needed to bring change in the volatile ground situation across Valley. “Military option is no option in Kashmir. This issue needs sincere, honest and serious engagement rather than halfhearted steps. Dialogue with Hurriyat and Pakistan should start immediately and followed with consistency,” senior National Conference legislator, Ali Muhammad Sagar told ET.

“The GoI should specify the contours of dialogue and then depute a group of people who can enter into dialogue with the voices of dissent. State must not rely on using gun against its own people,” senior CP M legislator Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami told ET. “Guns cannot get justice. All guns should fall silent and there should be a result oriented political process.”
