Centre not releasing fund for MGNREGA: Tripura

Tripura government, which topped the list of job creation in the country under MGNREGA last year, today criticized the Centre for not releasing money for the programme.

AGARTALA: Tripura government, which topped the list of job creation in the country under MGNREGA last year, today criticized the Centre for not releasing money for the programme.

"The central government has earmarked Rs 1208.86 crore for MGNREGA budget for 2012-13. But in their official website it is shown that only Rs 38.60 crore has been sanctioned," state Minister for Rural Development Jitendra Chowdhury said.

"Even that money was not made available to the state for which the works could not be started even after one and half months have passed," he said.

Under the scheme, the state ranked first and the second position was secured by Andhra Pradesh last fiscal.
