NEW DELHI/KOLKATA: The Centre showed its determination to tackle the Naxalite threat when it got the CRPF to file a second FIR naming the Maoists and the PCPA in the train hijacking case.

When the police forces were heading towards the train on October 27 they were fired upon by the Peoples Committee Against Political Atrocities (PCPA) and the Maoists. An FIR has been lodged against them for attacking the police and attempting to prevent them from doing their lawful duty, agency reports from Kolkata quoting a police official said.

The CRPF had joined the state police in securing the Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express at Banstala in West Midnapore district in West Bengal on Tuesday. The CRPF FIR was in addition to the FIR filed by the government railway police(GRP) at the same police station on the same night.

Additional director-general (Rlys) Dilip Mitra said the GRP in its FIR named only unknown miscreants for holding up the train. Mr Mitra, who attended a high level meeting, said that security on trains and stations in the vicinity had been thoroughly reviewed and the measures would require adequate financial and manpower resources . The meeting was attended by chief secretary Asok Mohan Chakraborty, home secretary Ardhendu Sen and DGP Bhupinder Singh.

Maoists, meanwhile, continued to unleash terror in West Midnapore district with the PCPA hacking to death two CPM activists and abducting three others. In the neigbouring Bankura district, the Trinamool Congress was the target of their violence. Reports said a Trinamool supporter was killed by the Maoists.

In West Midnapore, CPM local leaders Tapan Mody and Dilip Mahato were taken away by PCPA from Raghunathpur and Goaltore areas last night and their mutilated bodies found on Thursday. Maoists claimed that they have abducted CPM local committee members Ratan Patra, Gadadhar Patra and Kartik Dey in retaliation for the kidnap of a PCPA supporter from Hatipota village, allegedly by Marxists.
