Centre has no plan to remove Jammu & Kashmir Governor NN Vohra
NEW DELHI: Putting all speculations to rest, the government on Wednesday said that Jammu and Kashmir governor NN Vohra, a UPA government appointee, was unlikely to be removed in the immediate future.

“There is no plan to remove the governor of J&K,” said a top home ministry functionary. Vohra, a former Union home secretary, was appointed governor in 2008 by the Manmohan Singh government. He was given a second term in 2013.

Vohra was the first civilian governor of J&K in 18 years. The official further said MHA was working on a visit of a delegation of prominent Muslim leaders to the Valley as part of an unofficial initiative to help bring peace in Kashmir.

The Muslim leaders from various parts of the country had met Union home minister Rajnath Singh twice and expressed their willingness to visit J&K to help bring peace.

The Muslim leaders were not authorised to carry out any ‘Track-II’ dialogue with any stakeholder in the Valley, sources said. “It will be a goodwill initiative,” they added. The Muslim leaders will visit J&K after the two-day tour of an all-party delegation on September 4-5.
