Centre hands over Lafikul Islam murder case to CBI
GUWAHATI: Centre has handed over the investigation of Lafikul Islam murder case to Central Bureau of Investigation ( CBI).

All Bodoland territorial council minority students union (ABMSU) president Lafikul Islam was killed on August 1 by unidentified miscreants in Kokrajhar. This incident fuelled state wide protest.

According to state government statement, following Government of Assam’s request, Central Government has handed over the investigation of Lafikul Islam murder case to CBI Union Minister of State for DONER, Personnel, and Public Grievances & Pension etc. Dr Jitendra Singh informed this to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal over phone on Monday.

Government of Assam has already constituted a Special Investigative Team (SIT) headed by Inspector General of Police Anurag Tankha to inquire into the brutal murder and provided ex-gratia relief of Rs. 5 lakh to the next of kin of the slain ABMSU leader.
