NEW DELHI: The Centre is examining a report sent to it by the Uttar Pradesh government on the controversial suspension of IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal, who had cracked down on mining mafia in Gautam Budh Nagar area of the state.

The report was sent yesterday after the Centre issued three letters to the Uttar Pradesh government. The 2010 batch IAS officer was suspended on July 27.

A report from the state authorities on the suspension has been received by the Ministry of Personnel, which is the nodal authority for administrative matters related to Indian Administrative Service (IAS), official sources said today.

The report is being examined to decide on the future course of action, they said.

The Centre had written to Uttar Pradesh government thrice on July 30, August 2 and yesterday seeking the report on 28- year-old Nagpal's. The UP government had yesterday served a charge sheet to the officer and sent the report to the Personnel Ministry.

As per rules, an IAS officer gets a maximum of ten days to respond on charges levelled.

"The member of the Service shall be required to appear in person before the inquiring authority at any time prescribed after the expiry of ten working days from the date of receipt of the articles of charge and statement of imputations of misconduct or misbehavior," they say.
