NEW DELHI: The Centre is fully committed to interlinking of rivers and work on it was already in progress, Union Minister for Water Resources Saifuddin Soz said on Thursday.
Addressing the consultative committee meeting of his Ministry to discuss the role and functions of the National Institute of Hydrology, he said work on five projects of interlinking of rivers was under progress.
He said in view of the highly uneven nature of availability of water resources, an accurate assessment of the available sources is needed for optimum planning, design and operation of the water projects.
The Minister also informed the committee members that in the 11th Five Year Plan, the Ministry of Water Resources would get funds for flood management.
Noting that terrorism and climate change were the two biggest threats the world was facing, Soz called upon NIH to include climate change in its studies.
